# Ask what a test will help decide

Keep this in mind

Ask what the person treating you is trying to learn. Then ask who orders the test, who reads it and how you get the answer.

## Does every visit require blood tests?

At the September 26, 2026 check, general federal rules had no requirement to test blood for every prescription. State rules and your health needs can still make tests necessary.

Some medicines have special safety programs run by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that can require tests. The general rule above does not cover those programs. The sources used here did not check whether a special program applies to semaglutide. Ask the person treating you which tests are required for your exact medicine and why.

What decision will this result help make?

Do you need an existing result, a new test or an examination?

Can the needed test be arranged near me?

Keep this in mind

The test is only part of the plan. Make the route from sample to explanation clear before paying.

## What needs checking during treatment

Wegovy medicine information checked September 26, 2026.

Blood sugar

Wegovy’s official medicine information, called the label, says people with diabetes need blood-sugar checks before and during treatment.

Wegovy information on checks

Heart rate

The label also calls for regular checks of your pulse while you are resting. It does not give one fixed schedule for everyone. Ask how often your pulse will be checked and whether you will do any checks at home.

Kidney function

It calls for kidney checks when reactions such as vomiting or diarrhea could cause a loss of body fluid.

Keep this in mind

A list of tests is not a personalized plan. Ask how the results will be used for you.

## Should you have tests of the thyroid gland?

The small gland called the thyroid sits in your neck. The medicine’s strongest warning, called a boxed warning, concerns tumors in this gland.

The warning names a specific rare cancer called medullary thyroid cancer, which involves the thyroid’s C cells. If a relative’s thyroid cancer is the only detail you have, ask whoever treats you to help find out its exact kind.

The label says it is unclear whether routine thyroid blood tests or scans help find this cancer early.

## Before the visit ends

How will I hear about the result?

Who explains a result outside the expected range?

Does the quoted care fee include the test and its review?

Where would an examination in person take place?

## A closer look at the evidence

### The reason for a test matters

A general rule cannot tell you which tests you need. Whoever treats you needs enough medical information for the care decision and must arrange further checks when needed.
